Second Year Options

Second Year Options

After doing Mission Year many Team Members still want to be involved in similar work. Below are options for Team Members to continue to love God and love people.

Eastern University

The Mission Year + Eastern Partnership (MY+E) program is an iniative of Mission Year and Eastern University that will prepare future leaders for effective urban ministry and community development within our nation’s cities and distressed communities. The MY+E partnership program is based on the belief that context enriches education. The program grounds preparation for urban community development firmly within the context of urban living and mentored service.

Mission Year alumni of any year have the opportunity to earn an urban-oriented, Christ-centered MBA or MA degree in a nine to twelve month period of time in Philadelphia, PA for a greatly reduced price.

Vancouver Urban Promise

At Urban Promise in Vancouver, British Columbia, we work with children and youth in several of these under-resourced neighborhoods, offering After School Programs and Summer Day Camps for children in elementary school and a leadership development program for youth in grades 7-12. Our goal is to provide a safe place for children and youth to gather where they are cared for, where their self-esteem is nurtured, and where academic learning and achievement is encouraged. We want the children and youth in our programs to know that they are loved…most importantly by Jesus and also by us. We work hard to develop relationships with each of the children, youth and their families and to encourage them to begin and develop their own relationship with Jesus.

Many of the children and youth who attend our programs are challenged financially, socially and/or educationally. The Urban Promise team endeavors to be their “cheerleaders” and to encourage the children and youth to meet their potential. We depend on our staff, Interns and volunteers to provide leadership, to be good role models and to give support to the children and youth as they grow and learn together.

Urban Promise does not work alone! We partner with local churches from a variety of denominations to carry out our programs. The churches provide the facilities in which we operate our After School Programs and Summer Day Camps. We also connect with staff at local schools and with other organizations and businesses in our communities.
